Job Manager Error - Failed to connect to the JMX port on server

Technote (troubleshooting)


Problem(Abstract)

When connecting to a local server using the Job Manager in either the MDM Development or MDM Configuration perspectives in the InfoSphere MDM Workbench in Rational Application Developer, the following connection error is received:

Job Manager Error: Unable to connect to server "WebSphere Application Server v8.5 at localhost": Failed to connect to the JMX port on server "WebSphere Application Server v8.5 at localhost"

Environment

WebSphere Network Deployment on Microsoft Windows environment.

Resolving the problem

To resolve the issue, take the following steps:

1. Ensure that you are in the MDM Development perspective, and, in the 'Servers' tab:

a) Remove the existing localhost server

b) Right click and select New -> Server, then select the WebSphere Application Server v8.5 type and click Next.

c) Change the profile from Dmgr1 to AppSrv01 (or whatever profile that contains the InfoSphere MDM installation).


d) Clear the 'Run server with resources within the workspace' checkbox.
e) Ensure you update the proper user name and password for WebSphere Global Security and click Finish.

2. Switch to the MDM Configuration perspective.
From the Server tab, open server definition; by default, the option "Automatically determine connection settings" is selected. Note that all ports specified will be those for the Nodeagent.

a) Click Test Connection, from the Server definition properties, which should return successfully.
b) Select Jobs tab, click "Connect to Server"; this should result with a JXM exception.

The error message is ' Unable to connect to server "WASND - v8.5 at localhost": Failed to connect to the JMX port on server "WASND - v8.5 at localhost" '

3. Update the server definition.
a) Change the server definition by selecting "Manually provide connection settings"
b) Change IPC and SOAP port to ports from server1 (even if the same ports) and save the server definition.
c) Click Test Connection, and it should return successfully.
Switch to the Jobs tab, click "Connect to Server", and this time is should be successful.
