In the course of building the maximo ear file, a file not found error occurs.
When running any of buildmaximoear.cmd, buildmaximoearwas8.cmd, buildhelpear.cmd, buildmxiehsear.cmd or buildrmiregwar.cmd, a message similar to the following message appears:
C:\ibm\SMP\maximo\deployment>buildmaximoear
Starting merge of deployment module C:\ibm\SMP\maximo\deployment\deplmodule.dar
No deployment module to merge. Exiting merge
Unable to locate tools.jar. Expected to find it in C:\ibm\SMP\maximo\tools\java\lib\tools.jar

The error is not related to Maximo. In this context, the tools.jar file is related to the one distributed with the Java Developer Kit (JDK) and not the one in the Maximo library.
This is a problem with Apache Ant. Ant expects the tools.jar file to be in the %JAVA_HOME%/lib but tools.jar is distributed with the JDK. Maximo includes the Java Runtime Engine (JRE), which does not contain tools.jar. Therefore, when packaging the maximo.ear, the Ant process cannot find the tools.jar file. This is a known problem with Ant and does not impact how the maximo.ear is built.
You may ignore this error message.
