Troubleshooting
Problem
This article describes one of the possible reasons for error messages ASF Echo-Thread Server: asfcode = -25582: oserr = 0: errstr = : Network connection is broken. Error writing to network shown in the instance message log file.
Symptom
When you investigate the content of a logical log file with the onlog utility you may observe error messages like
ASF Echo-Thread Server: asfcode = -25582: oserr = 0: errstr = : Network connection is broken.
Error writing to network
or
ASF Echo-Thread Server: asfcode = -25580: oserr = 32: errstr = : System error occurred in network function. System error = 32.
Error writing to network
in the Informix instance message log file.
Cause
This can happen if you pipe the onlog output to a viewing utility like less, more, pg, etc., for example:
onlog -n 1234 | less
If you exit the utility (by Interrupt Ctrl-C or typing 'q' in the case of less, etc) before the onlog has read through the full logical log file, the onlog utility abruptly ends the communication between itself and the Informix server. This causes the before mentioned error messages will be written to the Informix instance message log file.
Diagnosing The Problem
If you observe the error messages every time an onlog output is interrupted only, then this description applies.
Resolving The Problem
In this situation these messages can safely be ignored.
