Snapdiff fails when saving files .bplusvtoc_internal and .vtoc_internal

Troubleshooting


Problem

A snapdiff backup may report access denied failure ANS5250E / ANS1228E / ANS4007E when saving two files named .bplusvtoc_internal and .vtoc_internal.

Symptom

From dsmerror log =>

Cause

The files are specific NetApp system files.

Environment

NetApp or Nseries using Ontap 8.x

Resolving The Problem

Those two files are special Ontap system files which are only kept in case Ontap needs to be downgraded to 7.x or in case old pre v8.x snapshots are kept on the NAS. The NetApp technote link below gives more details. Contact NAS vendor support and ask if those files may be removed.
