In Maximo 7.5.0.x, User is Able to View Data of a Restricted Storeroom

Question & Answer

Question

Is there a reason that I am unable to control user access to a restricted storeroom in Maximo, including the add/modify reservation of inventory items?

Cause

This is working as designed.

Answer

1. Log into Maximo as an Admin user.

2. Create a Security Group and make the group independent of other
groups. (Inv-Test)

3. Limit group to one site.

4. Create a new user (inv-testu) and add user into this group.

5. User is now a member of following groups:
- Inv-Test
- Everyone
- DefaultReg

6. Grant full access to the Inventory & Inventory Usage applications.

7. Log in with inv-testu user.

8. Navigate to the Inventory application.

Note: User is authorized only for one Storeroom.

The system displays all store room data, instead of the authorized storeroom only,
as it was working in the previous version.

9. Select an item from the list belonging to a storeroom which the user
should not have access to.

10. Form the "Select Action Menu" choose "Add / Modify Reservations".

11. The user is able to modify the reserved quantity of a restricted
storeroom.

Solution :
===
This is working as designed.

If you set up the user this way, you will still be able to see inventory from other storerooms.
However, if you try to edit them, you will see that the inventory is read-only.

To achieve what you want, here is what you need to do:
1) Using the Condition Expression manager, create a condition like "location='CENTRAL' and siteid='BEDFORD'".

2) Open the data group for that user, in Data Restrictions, restrict on object INVENTORY, application INVENTOR, and add the condition in step 1 into the condition field.

3) Log out and log back in as that user.

4) You should only see the inventory in the CENTRAL storeroom now.
