DB2 LUW VIP with TSA and HADR with more than one database

Question & Answer

Question

Can you use a single Virtual IP address for multiple databases in a TSA managed HADR configuration?

Answer

It is recommended that you use a separate Virtual IP address (VIP) for each database configured in a HADR TSA cluster.

When fail over occurs in a TSA managed HADR environment then the VIP will be moved with the database the VIP was configured for.

This will mean that if there are multiple databases configured to use HADR then some database could be still running on the original server but the VIP address will no longer exist on that server. If users then try to access the database that has not failed using the VIP address then they will be connecting the Standby server for this database and will receive an error.
