MustGather: Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP) based monitoring support for WebSphere Application Server problems

Resolving The Problem

SNMP specific MustGather information

SNMP service is available in application servers, node agents and Deployment Manager in WebSphere Application Server 8.5

Step 1: Set the JVM arguments on SNMP Agent Generic Server.

Here are the steps for applying a trace:

- Start the administrative console.

- Click Servers > Server Types> Generic servers > Snmp_server_Name > process definition > Java
Virtual Machine

- Add the following argument string to "Generic JVM arguments" text area.
-DtraceSettingsFile=/usr/MyTraceSettings.properties
-Djava.util.logging.manager=com.ibm.ws.bootstrap.WsLogManager
-Djava.util.logging.configureByServer=true

Note : Provide the -DtraceSettingsFile location as needed and as specific to the operating System.

- Click Apply

- Save and Sync the changes


Step2: Create MyTraceSettings.properties as mentioned in step1.

- Create an empty file MyTraceSettings.properties under the location mentioned in -DtraceSettingsFile

- Add the following lines . The file should have trace string set as shown below.

traceFileName=stdout
com.ibm.ws.pmi.snmp.*=all=enabled
com.tivoli.snmp.*=all=enabled

- Save the changes and

- Restart the snmp agent and recreate the problem.

Trace output will be redirected to SnmpServer SystemOut.log file.
