DB2 FAQ: This document contains Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) about IBM Data Server Driver Package (A lightweight deployment solution for IBM database applications ).
Answer
The IBM Data Server Driver Package (also referred to as the DS driver package) can be used to provide runtime support for various applications that interact with DB2 for Linux®, UNIX®, and Windows®, z/OS®, IBM i®, and Informix® databases through APIs, including ODBC/CLI, .NET, and JDBC. The IBM Data Server Driver Package supports open source and Java™, as well as applications that use ODBC, OLE DB, and .NET provider. It has a small footprint and is designed to be used by independent software vendors (ISVs) for mass application deployment scenarios that are typical of large enterprises.
1) Where can I download the DS Driver Package?
- DS Driver Package product can be downloaded from the IBM Data Server Client Packages download page:
http://www-01.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?uid=swg27016878
2) How do I install the DS driver package?
On Windows, GUI installation can be done using setup.exe included in the product.
On Linux/Unix systems, use the installDSDriver command.

3) How do I add a license to the DS driver installation when I connect to DB2 z/OS directly? I do not see db2licm with DS driver installation. Do I use the same activation file that is used by DB2 Connect?
db2licm is not included with DS driver package. If you are using DB2 Connect Unlimited Edition for z/OS®, you can use a server-based license key. This one step prevents the need for client-based license keys. For details, please check Activating the license key for DB2 Connect Unlimited Edition (System z)
If you are not using the server-based license, you have to get the DB2 Connect license file from your Passport Advantage® distribution, for example db2conpe.lic, then copy the license file to the license directory under the directory where the driver was installed.

4) With DB2 Connect, I was able to catalog the remote connections using 'catalog node', 'catalog dcs directory' and 'catalog db directory' statements. How do I catalog connections now?
With DSDriver, the remote node and database information should be added to the cfg file called db2dsdriver.cfg.

From another client, you can copy the info to your current cfg file using a tool called: db2dsdcfgfill

- After installing IBM Data Server Driver Package, db2cli validate command can be used to test the connectivity:
