About RQM Print Job Queue and Job Management

Question & Answer

Question

There are many unassigned jobs in the IBM Rational Quality Manager (RQM) Print Queue (print to PDF or CSV) and there seem to be more jobs than the number of jobs submitted. Jobs may remain after a server reset and slowly disappear. What explains these observations?

Cause

Observing behavior of the print job queue.

Answer

This is working as designed. Export to PDF or CSV may spawn multiple jobs. The print queue may well increase and decrease over time as new jobs are being run by users, processed, and downloaded. This is normal behavior.

By default, the print jobs are kept in the database (and seen in the UI) for 48 hours after completion. So even after a server restart, jobs may still appear in the queue.

There is a reaper job that runs every 10 hours (by default) which deletes old jobs that remain for more than 48 hours.

The Advanced Property com.ibm.rqm.print.service.engine.PrintJobReaper controls this.
