Problem
Tivoli Storage Manager upgrade fails with an ANRI1017W stating a 'db2 upgrade database TSMDB1' needs to be run. To run the command a db2start needs issuing resulting in a SQL5043N.
Symptom
Tivoli Storage Manager upgrade fails with the following message:
- ANRI1017W WARNING: Warnings
ANRI1017W WARNING: The upgrade command for database TSMDB1 failed. To complete the upgrade of this instance, correct the error and reissue the following command as user <instance_name>:
db2 upgrade database TSMDB1.
To execute the db2 upgrade command a db2start must be issued first. When issuing the command it reports the following:
$ db2start
04/21/2014 09:34:13 0 0 SQL5043N Support for one or more communications protocols specified in the DB2COMM environment variable failed to start successfully. However, core database manager functionality started successfully.
SQL1063N DB2START processing was successful.
Cause
During the upgrade process from v6 to v7 of the Tivoli Storage Manager server, DB2 is uninstalled to install the newest version of DB2 with v7 server. An error occurs that prevents DB2 from being upgraded meaning it needs to be upgraded manually using the command provided. In order to run the upgrade command the DB2 command db2start must first be issued. When this command is issued a SQL5043N message is received due to the DB configuration not being set properly.
Diagnosing The Problem
db2start reports the following error:
SQL5043N Support for one or more communications protocols specified in the DB2COMM environment variable failed to start successfully. However, core database manager functionality started successfully.
SQL1063N DB2START processing was successful.
Resolving The Problem
This error is a result of the DB2 configuration parameter SVCENAME not being set because the Tivoli Storage Manager upgrade process has not completed. The message can safely be ignored and you can proceed with the db2 upgrade database command to complete the upgrade process. Once the upgrade completes, starting the Tivoli Storage Manager server will complete the configuration process and set the SVCENAME parameter.
If you prefer to set the value, use the following command prior to stopping DB2:
db2 update dbm cfg using SVCENAME 51500
