E-IVM-053-006: OpenClient ... internal net library error

Question & Answer

Question

Error code E-IVM-053-006: OpenClient ...network packet layer: internal net library error. What is this error telling us?

Cause

A client connection to the object server has failed. The error code itself is generic and there are multiple causes including connection timeout exceeded and operating system errors. The sub-clause of the error contains more specific information. The error is often seen in cases where the object server is configured to run securely.

Examples include:

E-IVM-053-006: OpenClient (Layer = 5, Origin = 3, Severity = 5,
Number = 4) - Session 'NCOMS': ct_connect(): network packet layer: internal net library error: Net-Lib protocol driver call to connect two endpoints failed : Socket connect failed - errno 146 Connection refused

E-IVM-053-006: OpenClient (Layer = 5, Origin= 3, Severity = 5, Number = 6) - Session 'NCO_GATE': readahead failure: network packet layer: internal net library error: Net-Lib protocol driver call to read data failed : Socket recv failed - errno 110 Connection timed out

E-IVM-053-006: OpenClient (Layer = 5, Origin = 3, Severity = 5, Number = 6) - Session 'NCOMS': ct_connect(): network packet layer: internal net library error: Net-lib operation timed out : Operating System Error - 0

E-IVM-053-006: OpenClient (Layer = 5, Origin = 3, Severity = 5, Number = 4) - Session 'NCOMS': ct_connect(): network packet layer: internal net library error: Net-Lib protocol driver call to connect two endpoints failed : SSL: I/O error on read or write of socket

E-IVM-053-006: OpenClient (Layer = 5, Origin= 3, Severity = 5, Number = 4) - Session 'NCOMS': ct_connect(): network packet layer: internal net library error: Net-Lib protocol driver call to connect two endpoints failed : SSL: Peer closed socket before protocol completion.

Answer

If making a client connection to a secure mode object server, ensure that:
- the correct encryption method has been used for passwords.
- the client is configured for secure connection
- object server SSL port is opened in any firewall between the object server and the client

In the case that the client is running remotely to the object server it is connecting to, a further check would be to review $NCHOME/etc/omni.dat local to the client and make sure that the host and port details for the object server connection are correct. For any changes, run $NCHOME/bin/nco_igen -all to rebuild the interfaces file.
