NoSuchMethodError: CharacterConverterOGS when testing Oracle datasource

Troubleshooting


Problem

Unable to use Oracle 11g as datasource in Dynamic Query Mode.

Symptom

One of below errors is shown when testing Oracle datasource in Dynamic Query Mode:

XQE-GEN-0002 An unexpected exception occurred: oracle/i18n/text/converter/CharacterConverterOGS.getInstance(I)Loracle/i18n/text/converter/CharacterConverter;

or

java.lang.NoSuchMethodError:
oracle.i18n.text.converter.CharacterConverterOGS.getInstance

Cause

Cognos can not access Java methods from ORACLE_HOME\jlib\orai18.jar file.

Resolving The Problem

1. Verify if JAVA_HOME, PATH, TNS_ADMIN and library path are properly configured for Oracle Client and restart Cognos service. There is a separate note on it: http://www-01.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?uid=swg21341734

2. If step 1 doesn't help, copy orai18.jar file from ORACLE_HOME\jlib to <Cognos directory>\v5dataserver\lib and to <Cognos directory>\webapps\p2pd\lib and restart Cognos service.
