Content

IBM Connections 4.5 CR4 includes new functions that may be optionally used or enabled by making changes to the configuration files. This document lists each function, along with a brief description and steps to enable them.

1. Include hashtag (#) in a reply to a status update
This function adds supports for Hashtag in microblog comments. Now, when you click on a hashtag in a comment in News and in the replies section of an activity entry you are directed to a search result page returning all status updates and comments that have the corresponding hashtag. Only content created after CR4 is installed and the feature enabled will be clickable.

To enable, please add this generic property into LotusConnections-Config.xml:

<properties>

<genericProperty name="com.ibm.connections.ublog.hashtagCommentEnabled">enabled</genericProperty>

</properties>

If the <properties /> field does not exist, add it after the versionStamp field, and before the closing tag.

2. Include a file link in reply to a status update
This function adds support for posting a file in reply to a status update.

To enable, please add this generic property into LotusConnections-Config.xml:

<properties>

<genericProperty name="com.ibm.connections.ublog.attachmentCommentEnabled">enabled</genericProperty>

</properties>

3. Expose activity stream search in the user interface and filter by hashtag

<genericProperty name="com.ibm.social.as.hashtagSearchEnabled">true</genericProperty>

</properties>

4. @mentions via the activity stream API
This feature allows 3rd party applications to submit events that appear in the @mentions view of the activity stream. This feature does not need to be enabled.

The POSTing new events document has a section titled "POSTing an @mention event" with information about this API, which applies to IBM Connections 4.5.

5. Community Folders

In addition to sharing personal folders to Communities, you can now create folders in a Community and use them to organize files within that Community. Please read the "Managing Community folders" topic on the product documentation for more details.

To enable this feature:

To enable it, follow these steps:

1. Add this setting to the files-config.xml configuration file, inside the <config [ . . . ]></config> tags:

<folder>
    <community>
        <communityFolder enabled="true"/>
    </community>
</folder>

Please review the Editing configuration files topic for steps on how to change configuration files.

2. Remove temporary WebSphere Application Server directories such as the app_server_root/profiles/AppSrv01/temp directory. If you use IHS or a reverse proxy, you will also need to clear that IHS or reverse proxy cache too.

3. Synchronize and Restart the Connections server.

6. File Sync for Mobile
File Sync enables users to synchronize files between their mobile devices and the IBM Connections server.

By default, File Sync is disabled in IBM Connections. To enable and configure File Sync, please follow the steps in the Configuring File Sync for mobile page in the product documentation.

7. Push Notifications for Mobile
This feature enables notifications to be sent to mobile users about Connections events.

To enable and configure Push Notifications, complete the steps in the Configuring Push Notifications for Mobile page in the product documentation.

8. Multilingual compound word Search support

Some languages have compound words, consisting of two or more words. In IBM Connections 4.5 CR4, it is now possible to index the full form of compound words.

To enable this function, stop the server, add the following to search-config.xml file, then start the server:

<propertySettings>
    <property name="multilingual">
        <propertyField name="indexCompound" value="true"/>
    </property>
</propertySettings>

Once enabled, newly created content will be indexed using this new method, but rebuilding a full index in necessary to re-index the existing content using this new method. Please review the Recreating the Search index topic for details on how to perform a full re-indexing task.
