Tivoli Storage Manager V7.1 server shows no program installed on UNIX/Linux

Troubleshooting

Problem

A Tivoli Storage Manager is upgraded from V6.3 to V7.1. After the upgrade is complete, the operating system command does not show the installed program.

Symptom

The installed program cannot be queried using operating system commands. For example :

  • On AIX, the lslpp command shows no Tivoli Storage Manager server fileset.
  • On Linux, the rpm command shows no Tivoli Storage Manager server package.
  • On Solaris, the pkginfo command shows no Tivoli Storage Manager server package.
  • On HP-UX, the swlist command shows no Tivoli Storage Manager server package.

Note that on Windows, the Tivoli Storage Manager server package are still listed in the Windows control panel.

Cause

Working as designed

Resolving The Problem

Starting with Tivoli Storage Manager V7.1, Tivoli Storage Manager uses IBM Installation Manager, which is an installation program that can use remote or local software repositories to install or update many IBM products. The Installation Manager does not use operating system native packages. Instead, the software packages are managed by IBM Installation Manager. To list the installed packages, use the following command :

/opt/IBM/InstallationManager/eclipse/tools/imcl listInstalledPackages
