com.ibm.mm.icmrm.exceptions.RMAPISecurityException: ICM9840: Decryption
error: {0}, Return Code: 9840

Cause

This issue can occur because although LDAP authentication is being used for general users, RMADMIN is not an LDAP user.

By default, in CM 8.4 the cmbcmenv.properties file will only have one line, which is CMCFGDIR (eg. CMCFGDIR=/CMHomeDir/cmgmt/connectors). When the setting CMCOMMON_LDAP is enabled, CM will attempt to access the RMCONFIGURATION table, which will cause authentication issues.

CMCOMMON_LDAP is a setting which was present in CM 8.3 and would have been included in the old cmbcmenv.properties file.

Resolving the problem

To resolve this do the following:

  • Disable the CMCOMMON_LDAP setting in the CM RMCONFIGURATION table.
  • Restart the RM application, and attempt to access the Resource Manager database through the CM Admin Console.
