Question & Answer
Question
Is it possible to perform a cold Oracle backup using FlashCopy Manager if the Oracle database is in NOARCHIVELOG mode?
Cause
Oracle supports the backup of databases that are in NOARCHIVELOG mode, but only when the database is not in an open state. If the database is open (online), Oracle stops any backup operation and shows an error message, for example:
ORA-19602: cannot backup or copy active file in NOARCHIVELOG mode
Answer
FlashCopy Manager version 4.1.3 can backup a database that in the NOARCHIVELOG mode if this database is offline (shutdown).
It is not possible to perform an online (hot) backup of an Oracle instance that is in NOARCHIVELOG mode.
