Problem
When launching the TM1 Applications Web portal, no title bar appears (no option to log out etc) and the buttons, although they are there, are not clickable/do not work, or the login screen cycles, not allowing login to the portal.
Symptom
This setup has also been seen to simply cause the login screen to cycle, not allowing login to the Applications portal at all.
Cause
There is a limitation to the length of the server name with Apache Tomcat, and it cannot be longer than 30 characters. This can be inadvertently reached when the domain and port numbers are all taken into account. Special characters such as underscore (_) are also not allowed in the machine/host name.
e.g. bitm1web-dev.domain.internal:9510 is too long.
Diagnosing The Problem
If the applications portal is not loading correctly (i.e. without the title bar and with inactive buttons) try using the IP address, rather than the domain name: e.g. 198.160.0.1:9510. If this works, then the machine name can be shortened to resolve this issue.
The issue can also be diagnosed using Fiddler, which would result in:

If, when trying to log in to the Applications portal, the login screen does not login, but simply returns to the login screen, this solution can also be applied.
Resolving The Problem
Use the IP address rather than the machine name to temporarily resolve this issue. For the long term, rename the machine so that it does not hit the 30 character limit. Also ensure that the machine name / hostname does not contain any special characters, such as underscore.
