** For related technotes about Notes and other OS X versions, refer to the Index of Supportability Q&A technotes for Notes and OS X and Windows (technote 1998488) **

What versions of IBM Notes are supported on Apple's OS X 10.9.x Mavericks?
IBM Notes 8.5.3 Fix Pack 6 and 9.0.1 are supported. Sametime 9.0 Hot Fix 1 added support for OS X 10.9.x. Customers who use embedded Sametime in Notes should upgrade using the latest Sametime 9.0/9.0.1 add-on package (for details on where to download the latest package, see technote 1688304 and follow the link for "Sametime Clients" in the table).

IMPORTANT NOTE: Only a subset of OS X 10.9 Mavericks issues will not be addressed in 8.5.x due to deprecated Apple Carbon APIs that 8.5.x is based on. This is reflected below with comments "This fix cannot be backported to 8.5.x." for those specific issues. IBM recommends customers adopting OS X 10.9.x to use Notes 9.0.1 and above as the baseline.

Are there any known issues?
IBM worked with Apple developer preview versions of OS X 10.9 Mavericks before it shipped. This early testing was fruitful and Apple was able to make code changes that benefited compatibility with Notes. Some issues required changes on our side. Listed below are some of the known issues fixed in Notes 9.0.1.x and other defects currently open.

  • Issues addressed in Notes 9.0.1 Fix Pack 1 Interim Fix 1 & Notes 9.0.1 Fix Pack 2

XXFF9DVB44 Certain dialogs, such as setup and cross-certificate have minor text truncation when you are using releases prior to 9.0.1 on OS X 10.9. This fix cannot be backported to 8.5.x.

  • Open issues, not fixed
STIR9E2FRX Helper Terminal window does not display when running: Application -> Lotus Application Support->"collect lotus notes diagnostic data and exit notes". NSD still runs and produces an NSD file.

Symphony comes embedded in 8.5.3 FP6, what is IBM's position on Symphony support?
  • Symphony is not supported on OS X 10.9 and will crash on launch. Apache OpenOffice 4.0.1 is the recommended solution to this issue. You can download it here:
