You are probably installing a wrong product for your Operational System.
Resolving the problem
First check if your system is 32 or 64 bits. If you have the operational system:
On Solaris machine run: isainfo -v
On Linux machine run: uname -m
On HP-UX machine run: getconf KERNEL_BITS
On AIX machine run: getconf KERNEL_BITMODE or getconf HARDWARE_BITMODE
Second check what type is your OS running 'uname -a'. For example, for Linux OS, Informix has product for Power Series, Intel, x86_64 and zSeries.
Review the machine notes of your Informix version and see if you have the minimum requirement to install and run the Informix® product.
With this information, you will be able to know what version you need to download and install.
