Problem
This document presents options available when the supported limit of 2 million categories is reached within a Transformer model.
Symptom
Warning:
(TR0417) The supported limit of categories in the model has been exceeded (2 million). You may want to consider model redesign.
Cause
Although Transformer does not force an error at 2 million categories and abort the PowerCube build, the build process becomes unpredictable at this point. Because of this, a model that contains over 2 million categories is not supported.
Resolving The Problem
When this warning occurs, several options are available.
- Reduce the category count within the model by removing unused dimensions, levels or categories
- Remove lowest detail levels and use drill-through instead
- If the model is responsible for several cubes with differing scope, dimensions and measures, consider splitting the model such that it is specific to a single cube
- Place filters on the data source to restrict the incoming categories
