Troubleshooting
Problem
Attempts to run BIRT charts from IBM Rational ClearQuest in Firefox 18.0.1 or higher results in the error "A plugin is needed to display this content."
Symptom
The problem only occurs for charts with Output Format setting of SVG.
Cause
A change in newer versions of the Firefox browser surfaced a bug in the BIRT runtime.
Resolving The Problem
The problem is resolved in BIRT 4.2.1 or higher.
Note: BIRT 4.2.x will not work with ClearQuest 7.x installations because BIRT 4.2.x requires Java Runtime Environment 1.6, and ClearQuest 7.1.x uses JRE 1.5.x.
WORKAROUND:
Change the Output Format to a different setting such as PNG.
The setting can be changed from the BIRT Report Designer
- Double-click the offending chart
- Select a suitable format from the Output Format drop-down list.
