Installing InfoSphere MDM version 11 on Websphere Application Server 8.5.5.0

Technote (FAQ)

Question

What are the WebSphere Application Server version 8.5.5.0 configurations needed before installing InfoSphere MDM 11 on WebSphere Application Server 8.5.5.0?

Cause

InfoSphere MDM version 11 is bundled with WebSphere Application Server 8.5.0.2, but it is possible to be installed on WebSphere Application Server 8.5.5.0. In this case there are specific instructions to prepare for InfoSphere MDM version 11 installation on WebSphere Application Server 8.5.5.0

Answer

When installing MDM11.0 SE&AE on WAS8.5.5 AIX/Linux/Solaris

1. On a WebSphere Application Server ND 8.5.5 change Dmgr heap size to 1024 as minimum and 2048 as maximum.
2. Goto <WAS_HOME>/profiles/Dmgr01/properties/soap.client.props
On com.ibm.SOAP.requestTimeout=180 , change this value to 0 , which means "no timeout"
Goto <WAS_HOME>/profiles/AppSrv01/properties/soap.client.props
On com.ibm.SOAP.requestTimeout=180 , change this value to 0 , which means "no timeout"
3. Goto <WAS_HOME>/bin/ws_ant.bat/sh
Comment the existing ASM 3.2 version and use ASM 4
in a command:

eval "$JAVA_EXE" -Djava.endorsed.dirs="$WAS_ENDORSED_DIRS" "$OSGI_INSTALL" "$OSGI_CFG" $WAS_LOGGING "$CONSOLE_ENCODING" "$CLIENTSAS" "$CLIENTSSL" -Dwas.ant.extra.classpath="$WAS_ANT_EXTRA_CLASSPATH" -DWAS_USER_SCRIPT="$WAS_USER_SCRIPT" "$USER_INSTALL_PROP" -Dwas.install.root="$WAS_HOME" -Dwas.root="$WAS_HOME" -Dws.ext.dirs="$WAS_EXT_DIRS" ${ZOPTIONS:=} -classpath "$WAS_HOME/plugins/com.ibm.ws.prereq.ow.asm.jar:$WAS_CLASSPATH" $JVM_EXTRA_CMD_ARGS com.ibm.ws.bootstrap.WSLauncher org.apache.tools.ant.Main ${ZINPUT_HANDLER:=} ${ARGS}

replace com.ibm.ws.prereq.ow.asm.jar by com.ibm.ws.prereq.asm.jar

4. After making these changes, restart both Dmgr and AppSrv;
5. Install 'MDM database' and 'MDM Operational Server' features using IBM Installation Manager;
6. Run the IBM Installation Manager; click MODIFY and install DS and other UIs"

When installing InfoSphere MDM version11.0 Standard Edition and Advanced Edition on WebSphere Application Server 8.5.5 Windows 7 or Windows 2008

After creating WebSphere Application Server Profiles and before running the InfoSphere MDM Custom Installation:

1. On a WebSphere Application Server ND 8.5.5 change Dmgr heap size to 1024 as minimum and 2048 as maximum.
2. Goto <WAS_HOME>/profiles/Dmgr01/properties/soap.client.props
On com.ibm.SOAP.requestTimeout=180, change this value to 0 , which means "no timeout"
Goto <WAS_HOME>/profiles/AppSrv01/properties/soap.client.props
On com.ibm.SOAP.requestTimeout=180, change this value to 0 , which means "no timeout"
3. Goto <WAS_HOME>/bin/ws_ant.bat
Comment the existing ASM 3.2 version and use ASM 4

@REM set "CLASSPATH=%WAS_HOME%\plugins\com.ibm.ws.prereq.ow.asm.jar;%WAS_CLASSPATH%"

set "CLASSPATH=%WAS_HOME%\plugins\com.ibm.ws.prereq.asm.jar;%WAS_CLASSPATH%"

4. After making these changes, restart both Dmgr and AppSrv.
5. Install 'MDM database' and 'MDM Operational Server' features using IM INSTALL mode.
6. Use IM MODIFY mode and install DS and other UIs"

Steps to change Dmgr heap size to 1024 as minimum and 2048 as maximum
1) Log in WebSphere Application Server Admin console
2) In the navigation bar, click 'System administration' -> 'Deployment Manager'
3) In the central panel, click 'Java and Process Management' -> 'Process Definition' -> 'Java Virtual Machine'
4) In the central panel, in the 'Initial heap size ' text field, type 2048', click the Apply button, then click Save
5) Stop dmgr, stop Node Agents, then restart dmgr, and restart Node Agents.

Please note, this is a manual process, there's no way to change any repository to have it automatic. To install this fix, you need to follow the procedure above.

IMPORTANT:

After InfoSphere MDM version 11 installation, it is required to apply the patch to WebSphere Application Server 8.5.5.0 (file 8.5.5.0-WS-WASProd-IFPM90923.zip) -- this file is attached to this tech note.

The only requirement for this patch is WAS 8.5.5.0, no other patch is required.
