Consuming process can cause iterations in unrelated projects to lose their iteration types with CLM and Design Manager product versions 4.0.3 and 4.0.4

Flash (Alert)

Abstract

This Alert is meant to inform you about an issue that can occur where setting a project area as process consumer causes the loss of iteration type information in unrelated areas when using versions 4.0.3 or 4.0.4 of the IBM Rational Collaborative Lifecycle Management (CLM) or Design Manager products (Rational Quality Manager, Rational Requirements Composer, Rational Team Concert, Rational Software Architect Design Manager, Rational Rhapsody Design Manager).

Symptoms

Iterations in project or team areas that previously had iteration type information show the iteration type as <None> after any project area has begun consuming process.

Impact

This issue will affect customers who define a common process across project areas using the Process Sharing feature. Loss of information can occur when any project area starts consuming any process or any project area is changed to consume a different process than it had previously. The loss occurs in project or team areas other than the one that is being saved.

The effect of the iteration type information going missing is that the wrong permissions, preconditions and followup actions may be applied to operations in the various products.  For instance, users may have permission to perform operations they should not be able to, or may be prohibited from performing operations they should be able to.

Diagnosis

  1. Open the Timelines tab of a project area or team area known to use iteration types.

  2. Select an iteration that should have an iteration type.

  3. Click the "Edit Properties" button

  4. Verify the Iteration Type setting. If it is set to "<None>", the issue has been hit.

Defect

This issue has been identified as a product defect:
APAR PM97659 / Jazz Foundation work item 281813

Note: This issue is not present in 4.0.2 or earlier versions.

Workaround

There is no available workaround.
