Question & Answer
Question
Does IBM SPSS Statistics include a procedure for Multivariate Adaptive Regression Splines (MARS)? Friedman, J.H. (1991). Multivariate Adaptive Regression Splines. Annals of Statistics, 19(1), 1-67.
Answer
MARS methods are not implemented in SPSS Statistics. There are apparently R and Python packages that do implement MARS, so an R or Python routine could be written with the programmability plug-ins and turned into an extension command, but there are no built-in procedures available. An Enhancement Request has been filed to suggest the addition of MARS modeling methods to SPSS Statistics.
