Password limitation for InfoSphere Warehouse integrated installer

Technote (troubleshooting)

What you can do to resolve the password limitation for InfoSphere Warehouse integrated installer?

When you install DB2 server or Client using the InfoSphere Warehouse installer, if your instance password is more than 8 characters, you receive the following message:

The password must be less than 8 characters.

And installation can not complete.

In the past, DB2 had a password limitation rule of 8 characters. Starting in DB2 V9.7 Fixpack 1, the maximum length of the password allowed is equal to the maximum number of characters supported by operating system. However, the InfoSphere Warehouse installer still limited the length of passwords to no more than 8 characters.

Resolving the problem

To resolve the problem, install InfoSphere Warehouse in the following way:

  1. Using the DB2 native installer, install the DB2 server or Client. The native installer does not have the password limitation issue.
  2. Launch InfoSphere Warehouse Installer to install the rest of the Warehouse components.
  3. Choose work with existing DB2 copy, which you installed in the first step.
  4. On the database information page, to install the Application Server components, specify your DB2 instance password, even it is more than 8 characters. The installation completes.

Please note:
InfoSphere Warehouse was re-branded to DB2 Warehouse starting with the 10.5 release.
