Question & Answer
Question
How does SNMP settings work on DataPower?
Cause
Clarification is required for the use of the SNMP trap code and Logging target event code and some of their known limitations.
SNMP Settings can be configured from the Web GUI in the default domain by an administrator and is accessible from the menu from the following paths
Administration>Access>SNMP Settings and Objects>Access Settings>SNMP Settings
It can also be accessed from the CLI using the "snmp" command.
Answer
The SNMP trap code and Logging target event code require a 10 digit hexcode input. For example 0x1630002 in the configuration will not match event code 0x01630002. There is no validation to the arguments of either SNMP trap-code or logging event code, other than it can be a non-null string.
For example you can say "snmp; trap-code xxx", and get no error, so it is advised to double check subscriptions:
Setting SNMP Trap Code CLI:
xi50# conf
Global configuration mode
xi50(config)# snmp
SNMP Settings configuration mode
xi50(config snmp)# trap-code xxx
xi50(config snmp)# exit
xi50(config)#
Only a very limited number of DataPower result codes are used in the log system and can be subscribed to in a Logging target as an event code or as an SNMP trap code.
You can identify result codes from event log message identifiers by just the the starting digit. If the first digit is 0-7, it is a result code. If the first digit 8-F, it is a logging event code.
This means that some of the options, which are currently selectable, do not behave as a user would expect.
The following is a complete list of subscribe-able SNMP trap code:
