Problem

The Help system -- available from the Help menu and elsewhere -- is not working. How can I remedy this?

Symptom

Help system freezes or hangs when attempting to access within the IBM SPSS Statistics application.

Resolving The Problem

The Help system opens as a web site in your default web browser using the internal ('loopback') IP address of 127.0.0.1 and a random port number. This mechanism can be interdicted by different kinds of security software and protocols (anti-virus, anti-malware, firewall) as well as permissions and privileges. If you encounter this behavior, consult with your IT support group for assistance with determining the underlying cause(s) and possible resolution(s).

  1. Open the following URL in a web browser: https://www.ibm.com/support/knowledgecenter/SSLVMB
  2. Select the required product version in the 'Version' drop-down menu.
  3. Select the 'Table of contents' bar on the left side of the web page.
  4. The documentation resources available from the in-program Help menu will be displayed.
