APAR IC95109 documents an issue that pertains to the Tivoli Storage Manager V6.3.4 database restore utility, DSMSERV RESTORE DB. The issue can occur if the Tivoli Storage Manager V6.3.4 server database backup volumes were directed to file-based storage by using a device class of type=file, and the NUMSTREAMS parameter was used with the BACKUP DB command.
The Tivoli Storage Manager V6.3.4 database restore utility fails to restore a database from file volumes if the conditions that are documented in APAR IC95109 exist.
WHO IS AFFECTED:
Users of the Tivoli Storage Manager V6.3.4 server who have multiple-stream database backups
that are directed to file-based backup volumes and are written to multiple directories. You are not affected if you are backing up data to tape or backing up data to file-based storage and specifying NUMSTREAMS of 1.
If you are running a Tivoli Storage Manager V6.3.4 server, and you back up the database to multiple file directories, as documented in APAR IC95109, do not continue this type of backup. Instead, configure a single-directory file device class as a destination, or back up the data to tape. Alternatively, do not use the NUMSTREAMS parameter to run the BACKUP DB command.
A fix for this issue was provided in server level 22.214.171.124. After you install Tivoli Storage Manager 126.96.36.199, you can restore a server database backup that was generated with a 188.8.131.52 or 184.108.40.206 server, as documented in APAR IC95109. To restore the database, use the undocumented server option DBRESTOREVERIFYPATH. This option directs the DSMSERV RESTORE DB utility to differentiate between identically named file backup volumes by considering the full path name.
