Problem

Visual Studio Freezes while generating Entity Data Model (EDM) with IBM Entity Framework Provider.

Cause

IBM Entity Framework provider queries system tables (system catalog) to gather all the necessary metadata information to generate EDM.
If data distribution statistics of system tables are not collected or stale, the optimizer may select a plan that is not optimal, resulting in poor query execution performance that leads freezing Visual Studio.

Resolving The Problem

Contact your DBA to run update statistics commands that update and stores the data distribution statistics of system tables (system catalog).

It is highly recommended to keep all the table's statistics frequently updated to achieve the optimal performance.
