Potential Performance Degradation for Tivoli Storage Manager V6.3 Servers on AIX POWER7
APAR IC94804 documents a performance issue that might be seen on Tivoli Storage Manager Version 6.3 servers that are installed on AIX POWER7 systems. Systems with a high rate of client connection activity over relatively small intervals of time are more likely to be affected by this issue.
Tivoli Storage Manager V6.3 servers are packaged with GSKit V8. Under the conditions documented in APAR IC94804, significant performance degradation might occur.
WHO IS AFFECTED:
All of the following conditions must be met to experience the performance degradation:
- A Tivoli Storage Manager V6.3 server is installed on an AIX operating system. The V6.3 server can be at any fixing level below V6.3.5.
- The server is installed on an AIX POWER7 system.
- The server workload is similar to that documented in APAR IC94804.
If you are running a Tivoli Storage Manager V6.1 or V6.2 server for AIX, and you have workloads that are similar to those documented in APAR IC94804, do not upgrade to a fixing level below V6.3.5.
If you are running a Tivoli Storage Manager V6.3 server for AIX at a fixing level below V6.3.5 on a system other than POWER7, and you have workloads similar to those documented in APAR IC94804, do not upgrade to a POWER7 system without upgrading the server to V6.3.5 or higher.
If you must change your configuration such that all conditions in the Who Is Affected section of this document will be true, contact IBM Software Support for instructions before making those changes. IBM Software Support can provide a version of GSKit that avoids the problem.
This problem is resolved in GSKit V188.8.131.52 for AIX.
