Troubleshooting
Problem
Performing lanfree backups with a Storage Agent on Windows, either for a TDP Client or even for a Backup Archive client, may fail due to messages ANR1404W and ANR0525W.
Diagnosing The Problem
Example of messages occuring:
ANR1404W (Session: 12345, Origin: STORAGE_AGENT) Scratch volume mount request denied - mount failed. (SESSION: 12345)
ANR0525W (Session: 12345, Origin: STORAGE_AGENT) Transaction failed for session 93 for node LANFREE_NODE_NAME (CLIENT TYPE) - storage media inaccessible. (SESSION: 12345)
Resolving The Problem
This case only applies to environments using devices being controlled by the IBMtape driver.
The path definitions on the library manager fit to the device mapping of the lanfree machine and the devices show up in the lanfree machine's device manager. Nevertheless checking the Windows registry shows the following for the devices:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\HARDWARE\DEVICEMAP\Scsi\Scsi Port 1\Scsi Bus 0\Target Id 1\Logical Unit Id 0]
"Identifier"="IBM ULT3580-TD2 67U1"
"Type"="TapePeripheral"
"InquiryData"=hex:01,80,03,02,35,00,00,02,49,42,4d,20,20,20,20,20,55,4c,54,33,\
35,38,30,2d,54,44,32,20,20,20,20,20,36,37,55,31
"TsmSerialNumber"="1234567890"
"TsmWorldWideName"="0987654321098A01"
As we can see from the registry hive there is no registry key "DeviceName". This registry key is needed by IBM Spectrum Protect to properly open the devices.
To ensure IBM devices work properly with the storage agent IBM Spectrum Protect needs to read the "DeviceName" key in the registry. This registry key is being written by the IBMtape device driver on installation and/or device discovery.
When facing above problems and you have verified that there is no "DeviceName" key in the registry, please follow the next steps or contact your IBM hardware support for further advice.
1. Uninstall the tape and changer devices from Windows device manager
2. Run uninst.exe from the device driver package
(see link to Fixcentral site below)
3. Reboot the system after having checked all dependencies and according to your regulations
4. Install the device driver package again using install.exe to install the changer driver and install the drivers for the drives as per the instructions that come with that package.
Once the devices are reinstalled per the above directions, check for the "DeviceName" parameter in the Windows registry hive.
As an example this would look like either
"DeviceName"="mt1.0.0.1"
or
"DeviceName"="Tape1"
If this shows up as it is expected to, retry the backup. If the device name still does not show up on Windows, please involve IBM hardware support.
