Integration version wrong (10.1.2154 instead of 10.1.2157) when using local Controller client (CCRLocalClient.MSI)

Technote (troubleshooting)

Problem(Abstract)

User launches Controller. User clicks "Help - System Info". The 'Integration' version is incorrect - specifically it shows 10.1.2154 instead of the expected 10.1.2157.

However, another end user (who connects to the same server) may have the 'correct' version (10.1.2157).

Symptom

"Local Client" (CCRLocalClient.MSI):

IBM Cognos Controller Version: 10.1.2159
Integration Version: 10.1.2154

"Web Client" (ControllerClient.MSI):

IBM Cognos Controller Version: 10.1.2159
Integration Version: 10.1.2157

Cause

Known issue with Controller 10.1.1 FP2 (10.1.2159).

Environment

Problem only affects users who have the Controller 'local' client (CCRLocalClient.MSI) installed.

  • 'Good' end users will have the Controller 'web' client (ControllerClient.MSI) installed instead.

TIP: For more information on the different MSI files, see separate IBM Technote #1371088.

Resolving the problem

Fix:

Upgrade to Controller 10.1.1 FP3 (10.1.2659) or later.

Workaround:

Manually copy over the correct integration files to the 'bad' user's client device.

Steps:

1. On the client device, download the file http://servername/ibmcognos/controllerbin/integration.zip

  • TIP: Alternatively, locate the same file on the Controller application server, which (by default) is located here: C:\Program Files (x86)\IBM\cognos\c10\webcontent\ccr\integration.zip

2. Next, download the file http:// servername/ibmcognos/controllerbin/ jre.zip
  • TIP: Alternatively, locate the same file on the Controller application server, which (by default) is located here: C:\Program Files (x86)\IBM\cognos\c10\webcontent\ccr\jre.zip

2. Open the Controller client folder
  • TIP: By default, this is located here: C:\Program Files (x86)\IBM\IBM Cognos Controller

3. Rename the current folder "integration" to "integration. BAD"

4. Extract the file "integration.zip" into the client folder.

  • TIP: If using "WinZip" for example, when you extract, choose to extract to ...\IBM Cognos Controller\integration

Make sure you double-check afterwards that the correct file structure has been created

  • For example, you should have a file called "version.txt" inside "C:\Program Files(x86)\IBM\IBM Cognos Controller\Integration\", plus several other files (and subfolders) inside that folder

5. Extract the file "jre.zip" inside the newly-created 'integration' folder.

  • TIP: If using "WinZip" for example, when you extract, choose to "Extract to here" (which is *different* from what we did in step 4 !!)

Make sure you double-check afterwards that the correct file structure has been created

  • For example, you should have a folder structure "C:\Program Files(x86)\IBM\IBM Cognos Controller\Integration\jre"
  • Do NOT have the folder structure "C:\Program Files(x86)\IBM\IBM Cognos Controller\Integration\jre\jre"

6. Test.
