How to configure Cognos BI 10.2.1 to use TM1 as a data source when TM1 uses a custom SSL certificate

Question & Answer

Question

How is Cognos BI Server 10.2.1 configured to connect to a TM1 data source when the TM1 Server uses a custom SSL certificate?

Cause

Prior to Cognos BI Server 10.2.1 a TM1 instance using a custom certificate can not be used as a data source. When using Cognos BI Server 10.2 and lower we expect the following errors:

Comptible mode: TM1-ERR-0073 The TM1 Server ADMINHOST\TM1Server could not be found
Dynamic mode: QXE-EXE-0004 QFWBridge has returned an error: TM1-ERR-0070 The TM1 Server ADMINHOST\TM1Server could not be found

Cognos BI Server 10.2 now allows TM1 Servers using custom SSL certifications to be used as a data source.

Answer

The SSL certificate used with TM1 must be copied into the BI Server dispatcher installation directory (i.e C:\Program Files\ibm\cognos\c10_64\bin\ssl, you should see the other TM1 certificates in this directory).

Backup the C:\Program Files\ibm\cognos\c10_64\configuration\tm1.sslconfigs.xml-example file and copy to C:\Program Files\ibm\cognos\c10_64\configuration\tm1.sslconfigs.xml. Edit the entries in the tm1.sslconfigs.xml to the correct values for your SSL certificate

adminhost value is the TM1 Admin server fully qualified host name
certificateAuthority file is the TM1 SSL certificate .pem file copied into the Cognos BI Server directory
certificateId is the certificate ID

Assuming TM1 Architect can connect to the TM1 Server with the custom SSL certificate you can use the certificateAuthority and certificateId values in the TM1 Architect options.
