Problems With Running Cognos Reports After Refreshing an OpenPages Environment

Technote (troubleshooting)

Problem(Abstract)

After refreshing an OpenPages environment (ie: development) from using an OPBackup of another environment (ie: production), some Cognos reports are no longer working and the following error is occurring:

QE-DEF-0030 Expression parsing error.QE-DEF-0359 The query contains a reference to at least one object

Symptom

Cognos is generating a sample message such as:

QE-DEF-0030 Expression parsing error.QE-DEF-0359 The query contains a reference to at least one object '[AUD2_REL].[AUDITABLEENTITY].[AE_ENTITY_OWNER]' that does not exist.
QE-DEF-0030 Expression parsing error.QE-DEF-0359 The query contains a reference to at least one object '[AUD2_REL].[AUDITABLEENTITY].[AE_RISK_OWNER]' that does not exist.
The message is stating a field could NOT be found in the reporting framework.

Cause

The OpenPages framework that is published in Cognos does not align with reports that is being executed. This can occur if the reporting framework was not regenerated during an environment refresh.

Diagnosing the problem

To diagnose the issue, an OpenPages administrator should:

    1. Open a supported browser.
    2. Go to the OpenPages URL.
    3. Login with an administrator id.
    4. Using the navigation menubar, go to: Reporting -> Cognos Report Studio.
    5. Open the report within Report Studio.
    6. Validate the report.
If the report doesn't validate, review the reporting framework from within Report Studio to see if the field(s) exists. If the field doesn't exist, regenerate the reporting framework from within the OpenPages UI.

If the report does validate successfully, save the report and try to run the report again.

Resolving the problem

To resolve the issue, an OpenPages administrator should regenerate the reporting framework and verify that the field does exist in framework. To regenerate the reporting framework, an OpenPages administrator can:

    1. Open a supported browser.
    2. Go to the OpenPages URL.
    3. Login with an administrator id.
    4. Using the navigation menubar, go to: Administration -> Reporting Framework -> Generation.
    5. Click on the 'Update...' button.
    6. Select the appropriate check boxes.
    7. Click on the 'Submit' button.
    8. Once the reporting framework generates successfully, retest the report and/or re-validate the report in Cognos Report Studio.
