Changing the TCP/IP address of a Tivoli Storage Manager server

Troubleshooting

Problem

When you change the TCP/IP address (not the host name) of a Tivoli Storage Manager server, ensure that you also verify the server's address on other servers, storage agents, and clients.

Resolving The Problem

1) Update the Tivoli Storage Manager server

Verify the server TCP/IP address with the QUERY STATUS administrative command. For example :

tsm: MYTSM>query status
Server Name: MYTSM
Server host name or IP address: xx.xx.xx.xx

If the "Server host name or IP address" field specifies a host name, then no change is necessary because the host name value of the server did not change. If the address is incorrect, then use the SET SERVERHLADDRESS administrative command to modify it. For example :

set serverhladdress yy.yy.yy.yy

2) Update other Tivoli Storage Manager servers

If multiple Tivoli Storage Manager servers are used, verify the server definitions on the other servers to ensure that the address is correct. On each other server, use the QUERY SERVER command. For example :

tsm: MYOTHERTSM>query server f=d
Server Name: MYTSM
Comm. Method: TCPIP
High-level Address: xx.xx.xx.xx

If the "High-level Address" field specifies a host name, then no change is necessary because the host name value of the server did not change. If the address is incorrect, then use the UPDATE SERVER administrative command to modify it. For example :

update server mytsm hla=yy.yy.yy.yy

3) Update Storage Agents

If LAN-free operations are used, verify every storage agent that is configured with this server. The storage agent uses the dsmsta.opt file. In this options file, the DEVCONFIG option points to the device configuration file (default is devconfig.txt). In the device configuration file, verify that the HLADDRESS parameter uses the correct server address. Change the value as necessary. If the value must be changed, you must stop and restart the storage agent.

4) Update Tivoli Storage Manager clients

Verify the client options file, dsm.opt, and dsm.sys where applicable. Verify that the TCPSERVERADDRESS option specifies the correct address.
If the option specifies the host name of the server, then no change is needed because the host name did not change. If the option specifies the dotted address of the server and the address is incorrect, then modify the option with the correct address. If you change the option, you must stop and restart client services such as the Client Acceptor and Client Scheduler.
