Files under directory on NFS server were neither backed up nor inspected.

Technote (troubleshooting)

When issuing selective backup with specifying a directory on the top of file system, all the files under directory on NFS server were neither backed up nor inspected.

For example, when the backup command and its targets are like below, the files under directory "nfsmnt" would not be backed up, moreover "/test/nfsmnt" itself would not be inspected.

Backup command:
dsmc selective /test

Target directory:
* Directory "nfsmnt" is a mount point of NFS file system.
# df
Filesystem Mounted on /test/nfsmnt

# ls -laR /test
drwxr-xr-x 256 .
drwxr-xr-x 4096 ..
drwxr-xr-x 256 lost+found
drwxr-xr-x 256 directory1
drwxr-xr-x 256 nfsmnt

drwxr-xr-x 256 .
drwxr-xr-x 4096 ..
-rw-r--r-- 16 test_direct.txt

drwxr-xr-x 256 .
drwxr-xr-x 256 ..
drwxr-xr-x 256 lost+found
-rw-r--r-- 16 test_nfsmnt.txt

drwxr-xr-x 256 .
drwxr-xr-x 256 ..

Example of standard output for the backup:
Selective Backup function invoked.
Directory--> 256 /test/ [Sent]
Directory--> 256 /test/lost+found [Sent]
Directory--> 256 /test/directory1 [Sent]
* Directory "nfsmnt" is not shown up in the backup list.

Tivoli Storage Manager does not follow the nested NFS. The nested NFS will not be backed up or archived.

Resolving the problem

When target directories for backup is a nested NFS, specify the directory as the target and take backups for them directly.
