Data Protection for SAP (Oracle) client upgrade removed the Prole entry from inittab

Question & Answer

Question

Why are prole entries missing from inittab file after client upgrade?

Cause

Tivoli Storage Manager for Enterprise Resource Planning might not work correctly due to missing prole entry.

Answer

When the Data Protection for SAP is installed, a setup script is run which places an entry into the inittab file for the prole process. In general the entry would be:

/Fully/Qualified/Path/prole -p [TDP Port from /etc/services] [AA-server name] [ AA port number]

If the Data Protection for SAP client is upgraded without uninstalling the previous version, this can affect the installation processing such that the prole entry might not be created within the inittab file. To resolve this issue, first uninstall the old/existing version of Data Protection for SAP for Oracle and then install the new version.
