Problem
After a new installation of FlashCopy Manager on a system with the Simplified Chinese locale, the FlashCopy Manager MMC cannot create the snap-in.
Symptom
When the FlashCopy Manager MMC is opening, the following message is displayed:
MMC could not create the snap-in. The snap-in might not have been installed correctly.
Cause
The FlashCopy Manager MMC in Simplified Chinese version is attempting to be installed from the \fcm\x86\mmc\3100\chs directory of the installation package. There is no ISSetupPrerequisites folder under chs, so the Microsoft .NET Framework 4 Client included in the FlashCopy Manager installation package is not installed.
Diagnosing The Problem
FlashCopy Manager MMC snap-in can manually be registered successfully with the following technote FlashCopy Manager MMC snap-in cannot be loaded. However, when opening the FlashCopy Manager MMC, the following message is displayed: "MMC could not create the snap-in."
Resolving The Problem
The MMC cannot run successfully unless the prerequisite version of the .NET Framework software is installed. This prerequisite is specifically stated in the requirements documents for FlashCopy Manager. When the .NET Framework software prerequisite is not met, the MMC software receives the message that the snap-in cannot be created.
In this case, where the Simplified Chinese locale is used during the installation, manually install the dotNetFx40_Client_x86_x64 from FlashCopy Manager installation package from the enu\ISSetupPrerequisites\{29FC0BB0-95A7-4420-B46C-68F628FB5FC4} folder. When the installation completes, the required version of Microsoft .NET Framework 4 Client profile is installed. Thereafter, the FlashCopy Manager MMC snap-in should be manually registered through the command line again.
