Rational ClearCase Limited Vendor Support Policy

Abstract

This technote describes the Limited Vendor Support policy for IBM Rational ClearCase. This policy is supplemental to the ClearCase support policy for fully supported software.

Content

IBM Rational ClearCase seeks to support a wide array of vendor software to assist our customers with their broad range of needs for ClearCase deployments.  However, fully certifying the proper operation of ClearCase in conjunction with a wide set of other product offerings is not possible.  Further, IBM recognizes that in some circumstances, full validation is not warranted.  These cases may include operating systems that are clones of fully supported operating systems, and certain software offerings that run below the level of interaction with ClearCase.  As a result, this policy provides a list of vendor software for which ClearCase provides limited support; it includes the following statements of support:

  • IBM Rational Customer Support will accept calls for issues that are encountered when using ClearCase in conjunction with the software listed in this document.
  • IBM Rational Customer Support and Engineering will have some ability to investigate problems that are reported.
  • IBM Rational Customer Support may request the customer to reproduce a reported problem on the corresponding, fully supported software.


IBM may perform limited testing of the software listed in this document prior to announcing our limited support for it. IBM may also perform additional testing from time to time; however, there is no commitment to fully test the software listed here on an ongoing basis.

The software listed in this document has been carefully selected for one or both of the following characteristics:

  • The software is inherent similarity to software that is fully supported; see Section 1: Limited Vendor Support for Operating Systems.
  • The software has been determined to execute at a sufficiently low level that it does not interfere with proper ClearCase operation; see Section 2: Limited Vendor Support for Other Software.
 

Any known limitations to ClearCase operating with software listed in this document are noted.


Section 1: Limited Vendor Support for Operating Systems (as of Oct 2023)


Unfortunately, due to changes outside of our control, we are no longer able to support any of the previous "clone distribtions" of Linux. 

 


Section 2: Limited Vendor Support for Other Software (as of March 2016)

Symantec Drive Encryption 10.3.0 MP1, 10.3.2 MP2 (and later) (formerly PGP Whole Disk Encryption)

  • Windows only
  • Supported with ClearCase 9.1 and later.

The ClearCase copy-based view types (snapshot, web, and automatic) are not supported with Symantec Drive Encryption when used with Solid State Drives (SSDs).

Any update to the software listed this section can be considered to be covered by this policy; however, if the new version is not specifically listed, it has not been tested.
