opening the deployment portal fails with message 'URL cannot be displayed'

Technote (troubleshooting)


Installation of C&DS v5 is done successfully on a linux system.

- You can access the content explorer via Deployment Manager Windows client.

- When trying to access the 'deployment portal' via a webbrowser you receive the message that the URL cannot be displayed.

Problem is linked to the user permissions used for the installation of C&DS.

Diagnosing the problem

A new user 'SPSS' was created on the linux system for the installation of C&DS. The user didn't have 'root' permissions.
The C&DS server was started with this new user and there are no issues reported when using the fat client, nor when logging on to the deployment manager via the webbrowser. (http://<ip address:8080/security/logon)
When selecting the 'deployment portal' the page could not be displayed.

Resolving the problem

Add the user used for the installation and startup of C&DS ('SPSS' in this example) to the group 'root' on your linux system.
