Troubleshooting
Problem
When WebSphere Service Registry and Repository (WSRR) is installed on AIX using using Installation Manager (IM) GUI, there are necessary filesets that need to be present so that IM displays the package names legibly.
Symptom
Absence of the required filesets causes IM GUI to display the package names with unreadable characters.
Cause
Missing font filesets.
Environment
AIX
Resolving The Problem
Use the command below to identify required X11 filesets on AIX:
lslpp -la | grep -i x11
X11.adt.bitmaps
X11.adt.imake
X11.adt.include
X11.adt.lib
X11.base.common
X11.base.lib
X11.base.rte
X11.base.smt
X11.base.xpconfig
X11.fnt.coreX
X11.fnt.defaultFonts
X11.fnt.iso1
X11.fnt.iso_T1
X11.motif.lib
X11.motif.mwm
X11.vsm.lib
X11.Dt.rte
bos.rte.X11
If X11.fnt.coreX and X11.fnt.iso_T1 are missing, IM GUI can not display the package names in a legible manner.
For the U.S. English locale, the 8 packages listed below would also be recommended. Other locales may require additional filesets specific to their locale.
X11.loc.en_US.base.lib
X11.loc.en_US.base.rte
X11.msg.en_US.adt.imake
X11.msg.en_US.base.common
X11.msg.en_US.base.rte
X11.msg.en_US.motif.lib
X11.msg.en_US.motif.mwm
X11.msg.en_US.vsm.rte
Once these filesets are installed, then the IM should be able to operate in graphical mode, either using a local terminal or a remote X windows connection.
