Apply PM81540 before deploying a platform developed using CICS Explorer 5.1.1

Technote (troubleshooting)

Problem(Abstract)

CICS Explorer 5.1.1 provides enhanced support for platforms and applications. As a result, CICS Explorer 5.1.1 is capable of deploying platforms and applications only to environments running CICS Transaction Server for z/OS (CICS TS) V5.1 with APAR PM81540 applied. PM81540 is a pre-requisite for deploying platforms and applications to these environments. If you attempt to deploy a platform developed using CICS Explorer 5.1.1 to a CICS TS 5.1 environment that does not include APAR PM81540, the deploy will fail and you will see CNX0592E PLATDEF_XML_IN_BUNDLE_INVALID in the CICS Explorer and EYUTI0504E PLATDEF Invalid XML found for file META-INF/platform.xml in the EYULOG of the CICSPlex SM Web User Interface server.

Symptom

CNX0592E Attribute Name (NAME) Error(PLATDEF_XML_IN_BUNDLE_INVALID) in CICS Explorer

EYUTI0504E PLATDEF platdef Invalid XML found for file META-INF/platform.xml in the EYULOG of the CICSPlex SM Web User Interface server.

Resolving the problem

Apply PTFs UK95606, UK95607, and UK95608 for APAR PM81540, that were made available on 9 July 2013, to your CICS TS environment before you try to deploy your platform.

APAR PM81540 is also required by CICS Configuration Manager for z/OS (CICS CM) V5.1 as detailed in CICS CM APAR PM80814. APAR PM81540 is required for the update application definition (APPLDEF) function to perform correctly. If PM81540 is not applied, CICS CM gives the appearance that the updates were successful and that the operation has completed. No error message is displayed, but when you view the APPLDEF again you see that no fields have changed.
