Resolving The Problem
Check if WebSphere has left a ".pid" file in the default location C:\IBM\WebSphere\AppServer\profiles\default\logs\server1 for version 8.0.1 and 8.1 or C:\IBM\WebSphere\AppServer\profiles\InfoSphere\logs\server1 for version 8.5 and later when it crashed previously. If the ".pid" exists, delete it and try to start again.
