Problem
Unable to install IBM ILOG CPLEX Optimization Studio on Windows
Resolving The Problem
Listed below are a few reasons why the installation fails:
- The Path environment variable has non-ASCII characters. Check the Path environment variable, it can be accessed under System-> Advanced System Settings -> Environment Variables. Ensure there are only ASCII characters.
- The Security Software (Anti Virus, Firewall) is blocking the installer. Temporarily disable the Security Software during the installation.
- On Windows 7 and Windows Vista machines, always run the installer (or fix pack) by right clicking on the installer (or fix pack) and choosing the option "Run as Administrator". This is required even if you are the admin user on the machine.
- Restricted access to write into Program Files directory. By default the IBM ILOG CPLEX Optimization Studio product is installed under the program files directory. The default path on Windows would be: C:\Program Files\IBM\ILOG\. On Windows 7 and Windows Vista machines, users (including administrators) have restricted access to write into the Program Files directory. This could lead to errors either during installation. Our advice in such cases is to install IBM ILOG CPLEX Optimization Studio under a non-program files directory, for example: C:\IBM\ILOG\
- Try deleting your Windows Temp folder before launching the installation.
- Try a silent installation, as described in Silent installation of CPELX Optimization Studio.
If none of the above did help, there is a way to get some debug information from the installation. See Debugging a Windows-Based Installer.
The first technic described in this document (user has to hold down the CTRL key until the extract is completely done) allows to capture the complete log and check what's inside. For example in case the log shows a memory issue, we suggest to launch the .exe installer with argument -jvmxmx 250m (or even more memory).
