Problem
Flash Copy Manager offload backup to server can fail with the following error: FMM8546E Environment variable 'ORACLE_SID' is not set or not set correctly.
Cause
The ORACLE_SID variable is not being sourced correctly
Resolving The Problem
1) Determine the correct Oracle System Id that this Oracle instance uses for the back up
2) Check the Oracle user's environment to verify that ORACLE_SID is set correctly
As the Oracle user, issue the "env" command. You should see the following in the env output:
ORACLE_SID=YOURSYSTEM_ID
3) If this variable has not been set, use the following command to enable this for the Oracle user that runs the backup:
- export ORACLE_SID=YOURSYSTEM_ID
After this is in place, the FMM8546E error should no longer occur
