Troubleshooting
Problem
Attempts to delete an object failes with error "Permission denied. Unable to delete object from database" in IBM Rational Synergy.
Symptom
You will see an error similar to the following in the message log:
Delete in progress...
Deleting object 'MyFile.xlsm~2:ms_excel:1'.
Could not unlink
\\serverA\MyDatabases\DatabaseX\st_root\cache\source\#29\687829:
Permission denied.
Unable to delete object from database: 'MyFile.xlsm~2:ms_excel:1'.
Delete complete, 0 of 1 succeeded.
Warning: Delete failed, Unable to delete object from database: 'MyFile.xlsm~2:ms_excel:1'.
Cause
The specific cache file is being locked by some other process and cannot be accesses.
Diagnosing The Problem
Run 'cacls' command on the object to see the permissions.
Look in the client log and engine log for more details on the error message.
Resolving The Problem
To resolve the problem you need to release the file. To do this you should stop the process which is locking the cache file. This may require you to reboot the Rational Synergy server.
