This document is intended to provide a history and clarify the future support policy for IBM Maximo Asset Management, its related products and the Actuate Reporting tool.

Beginning with Version 5.0 introduced in 2001, Actuate was the embedded reporting tool for the Maximo Reporting Products. This continued thru Maximo Version 6.2, which utilized Actuate Report Version 8.

On September 30, 2013, the product life cycle for Maximo Version 6.2 will end. Although Clients have the option to purchase extended support for Maximo Version 6.2, this support does not include any Actuate reporting components or functionality. If clients continue to use Actuate reporting in Maximo 6, and they encounter a reporting related issue, IBM will be unable to provide technical assistance for that problem.

Additional report options are available to the client in Maximo 6, including the Version 7 Report Integration, which utilizes BIRT reporting, along with open integrations via the External Report Integration (ERI) adapter. More information on these options can be found here

For clients upgrading to the Maximo 7 releases, the embedded reporting tool has changed to BIRT and is available for the client to use. Additionally, you can use a number of other reporting tools through the report integrations including Cognos. More information on the report options available for Maximo 7.5 are here and Maximo 7.1 are here

Clients can continue to use Actuate Reporting in the Maximo 7 releases. As of October 1, 2010, IBM no longer provided Actuate media updates to the Actuate software.

You are responsible for procuring Actuate licenses, and performing the installation and integration of the software using the ERI Integration option. The reporting functionality enabled through this integration is significantly different than what is available. Features such as Direct Print, Emailing and Scheduling from Maximo, and security synchronization are not automatically enabled. For more details on these differences, reference this document here

Additionally, it is important to note that clients are unable to use Actuate 8 included in Maximo 6 with any other Maximo version. This software was specific for the Maximo 6 version, and is unable to be extracted from Maximo 6 and applied to the Maximo 7.1 or Maximo 7.5 versions.
