Cannot compile IEEE 802.1X standard MIBs in ITNM

Technote (troubleshooting)

Problem(Abstract)

Custom Mibs fail to load.

Symptom

Customer is attempting to load some Custom Mib's and they are failing to compile and load.

The following modules failed to resolve fully:
IEEE8021-CFM-MIB
IEEE8021-SECY-MIB
IEEE8021X-PAE-MIB

Cause

In this case the Customer's mib files didn't include the IMPORTS statement for ISO . When they added

IMPORTS

-- Import statements already in the mib

iso

FROM ISO;

The Mib's compiled without error.

Diagnosing the problem

Setup ncp_mib in debug mode to determine what in the mib(s) is causing it not to compile.

./ncp_mib -debug 4 -override >/tmp/ncp_mib.out

Resolving the problem

Typically the reason mibs are not compiled is that they are missing
dependencies and do not have the necessary prerequisites, or something is lacking in the IMPORT. In this case our Mib compiler didn't understand ISO and these MIB's that the customer was using appears to not have included the IMPORTS statement for ISO thus the need to manually add in the mibs.
