How to use the Quick search capability of Rational Software Architect Design Manager

Technote (FAQ)

Question

How do you use the Quick search capability of IBM Rational Software Architect Design Manager?

Cause

You want to know details about how to use search operators and terms in the Quick search capability.

Answer

The string entered into the quick search control is processed before sending a Lucene compatible query to the text indexing engine in Rational Software Architect Design Manager.

The search string entered in the Rational Software Architect Design Manager web UI is parsed into separate search terms, where there terms are converted to a Lucene query expression with the logical AND operator separating the search terms.

In general, whitespace characters (space, tab, etc.) are used to delineate search terms. Thus each word in the search string becomes a search term, unless double quotes are used.
All of the words contained in double quotes are put into the same search term. The character “*” and “?” are treated as wildcard characters.

For example:
If the search string entered was: my name
the resulting query expression would be: ((*my*)) AND ((*name*))
which would match resources with partial strings: my and name.

If the search string entered was: “my name”
the resulting query expression would be: ((“my name”))
which would match resources with the exact string: my name
