Report Studio output to PDF or Excel freezes upon prompt selection.

Technote (troubleshooting)


Export to PDF or Excel from Report Studio causes a loop when certain value prompt selections made. Data corresponding to selection has a non-ASCII character.


When making certain, not all, selections in a value prompt of a prompt page in Report Studio, the hour glass will spin continuously. No report data will be displayed.


In the case of one client the data corresponding to the prompt value selected from the data source contained an arrow character: '->'


Confirmed in Windows and IBM Cognos 10.1.1 or 10.1.0

Diagnosing the problem

If the user is stating that report does not display data and prompt selection causes hour glass to spin continuously refer to report source data for that prompt value and determine if it contains any non-ASCII characters.

Resolving the problem

Remove any non-ASCII characters from the data in the data source.
